The Top Ten

Post  Carlen Darko on Thu Jan 07, 2010 2:32 pm

Simple. List your top ten video games of all time, what system you played it on, and why.

I. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Xbox
I love Star Wars and this is the best SW game ever made.

II. Mass Effect - Xbox 360
The story, the universe, the characters, the gameplay, everything about this game was epic.

III. The Legend of Dragoon - Playstation
Simply put, this is the best traditional turn-based RPG of all time. Yes, to me, it beats Final Fantasy 7 hands-down.

IV. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Xbox 360
What can I say about this game that isn't already known. It's that awesome.

V. City of Heroes - PC
The first MMO I ever played and a great one to start with.

VI. Jet Force Gemini - Nintendo 64
This game used to be the only thing I ever put in my console. I loved the gameplay.

VII. 007: Goldeneye - N64

The pioneer for first-person shooters today. Who didn't play this with four people?

VIII. Resident Evil 4 - Gamecube
Arguably the best Gamecube game to ever be released and for good reason.

IX. Shadow of the Colossus - Playstation 2

The game was epic in every way especially in scale.

X. Soul Calibur 3 - Playstation 2
My favorite fighting game of all time had to make the list.

Alright, here's my attempt. And note that these arn't set in concrete, each game might slide up and down one or two ranks depending on mood.

#1: X-COM: UFO Defense.

Without a doubt my favorite game of all time.

#2: Jagged Alliance 2. v1.13SVN
Spend nearing 300 hours playing it.

#3: System Shock 2.
The holologs and storylines still gives me goosebumps to this day.

#4: Fallout 2
Spent over 200 hours playing it, clocked it 7 times.

#5: Deus Ex
No comment even needed.

#6: Fallout 3 (With over 4gb of community mods)

#7: KOTOR series. (Though I liked 2 better)

#8: Jedi Outcast series (Kyle Katarn is legend)

#9: Mass Effect.

#10: Civilization Series. (1 through 4, including like-Civ games like Alpha-Centari, AC-AlienCrossFire, Colonization)

1. Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic - Possibly because I couldn't think of anything else and looked at Carlen's list or because it is a damn awesome game (the latter.)

2. Elder Scrolls Oblivion - Because of the amount of time I've played this game, the mods are also good and the re playability is good.

3. Dragon Age Origins - I can see a lot of opportunities in this game, 'two years worth of expansions and DLC's'

4. Mass Effect

5. Demon's Souls

6. Banjo Kazooie (N64,)

7. Fallout 3 (maybe I should shift this one to 6...?)

8. KOTOR II, I liked it's dark theme and storyline and how everything was the same to the first game and it'd probably be number 2 if the game itself wasn't so poorly done and shallow in some areas because of all the cut content, and I don't think any restoration pack will bring what it could have been back.

9. Never Winter Nights series, I wish I could put this one somewhere at the start but it's so old so it's hard to get into especially with it's bad interface and controls, the new one is cool though.

10. Mario64 (N64)

1. Mass Effect
This is the ultimate game, the ending was the most epic ever

2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Its Star Wars

3. Baldurs Gate
Mind-blowing RPG on a massive scale

4. Fallout
Best turn-based game ever

5. PlaneScape: Torment
Best RPG ever made

6. Crusader: No Remorse
Isometric goodness

7. Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Better than the original and a great RTS

8. Ultima Online
Played it for 6 years, Granddaddy of modern MMO's

9. Postal 2
muwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha

10. Neverwinter Nights 2
The sheer amount of hours I put into it

Top Ten, in no particular order:

  • Final Fantasy 7 - PSX 1997 - I have played through this game more times than I can remember, I have yet to play any other game that had me so moved by the ending, I actually felt like I had accomplished something great.
  • Final Fantasy 9 - PSX 2001 - This one was a lot of fun for me, I enjoyed it so much that I wrote a 300 page guide for it which included all side quests, items, the storyline etc.
  • Age of Empires series - PC since 1997 - My love for this game grew from LAN multi-player games with my family.
  • Dungeon Siege - PC 2002 - This was a lot of fun, especially in when teamed up in multi-player.
  • Assassins Creed 2 - Xbox360 2009 - The storyline is so creepy and so far in the series (short as it is) they games have gone from strength to strength, I can't wait for #3.
  • Police Quest: SWAT 2 - PC 1998 - The fore-runner to the SWAT tactical FPS games was so old school and pure awesome.
  • GTA: Vice City - PC 2003 - So much mindless fun. I loved it.
  • Jedi Academy - PC 2003 - Much online multiplayer awesomeness.
  • Dark Forces - PC 1995 - The first SW game that immersed me in the world beyond the movies.
  • WipEout 2097 - PSX 1996 - This game gave me a huge adrenaline rush because they were so fast.

Hmm this is very hard indeed but lets give it a shot.

1: Fallout 1 and 2. (its a tie on that one)
2: The entire dark forces series. ( yes kev. kyle is a legend)
3: Fallout 3. (yes a big fallout fan, but no worries tactics will not be in this list)
4: KOTOR 1.
5: FF7
6: FF10 (altough the main character is tooo gay.)
7: Morrowind. (oblivion never sticked with me)
8: Mass effect
9: Batman Arcum assylum (ssry for spelling)
10: GTA vice city

These are the games that stood out in their time. (for me that is)
I still love to play those old games, grapics are not a must for me. Gameplay and story is way more important!

Quinlan you are very right to mention ultima online what an awesome game that was!

Hmm. . .ok heres my top 10:

#1 - Street Fighter 2 - Basically you weren't "cool" if you didn't know how to play this game in my NZ town.
#2 - Super Mario Bros - I just couldn't get enough of this SNES game. I use to rent this game from the local video shop, it was a 2-day hire game LMAO I use to keep the game for weeks until they had to come to my house to personally get it back.

#3 - Chronotrigger - Ahh the SNES game that made me fall in love with Squaresoft, out of all of squaresoft's rpg games Chronotrigger is the game I enjoyed the most.

#4 - Star Wars KOTOR - I think we all know how or what this game mean't to each of us so I wont go into any detail.

#5 - Forgotten Realms Series - Even now I still load up a forgotten Realms game, Icewindale, Baldurs gate, Neverwinter Nights etc.

#6 - World of Warcraft - Bludy Addictive MMO!! . . . . now I hate it nuff said!!

#7 - Mass Effect - Although this game reminded me of Moon Patrol the storyline was fantastic!!

#8 - Rugby 08 - I am a devout rugby union fan.. Hurricanes and All Blacks 4 Life!!!!

#9 - Tomb Raider - Very enjoyable game. ( back in the day) Alot of hours went into this game.

#10 - Tekken Tag - Theres something about those tag-out combos thats soo gratifying!!

4. SOCOM - console

5. Lords of the Realm - PC

6. Dragon Age Origins - PC

7. Tecmo Super Bowl - console

8. Super Mario Brothers - console (this was the first game I ever played and spent many many hours. I remember my arms and legs raising up in the air with the controller when I was trying to jump haha.)

9. Star Wars Galaxies - PC (pre-nge)

10. Sins of a Solar Empire - PC

I haven't played much more than that so my list might not be all that great.

1. Trespasser
I've always liked dinosaurs and this was one of the first games to feature sophisticated AI and its amazing arm mechanics have never been duplicated. Unfortunately Dreamworks Interactive no longer exists but it will always be a game close to my heart.

2. KOTOR
simply amazing revolutionary RPG

3. James Bond: Nightfire X-BOX 1
one of my favorite games from younger days

4. James Bond: Goldeneye N64
Great game I grew up with

5. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault now on PC
Amazing game with amazing gameplay, I love learning of war and weapons and tactics and such and this was an amazing experience, I still play it today on PC and the stealth levels are my favorite.

6. The battlefield series: PC
It started with 1942 and from then on I was hooked on online FPS action!

7. Call of Juarez: Number one and the second one "Bound in Blood" PC
I absolutely love western movies, the hero's, the villains, great races across the desert for treasure and friends, showdowns at high noon with the single action revolver, pure movie magic and these games are a fantastic representation of that, I nearly cried at the end of the second one the first time I played through, but because I played the first one.

8. Star Wars Empire at War: PC
An amazing and epic star wars RPG that i always eventually come back to.

9. The Jedi Knight series:
I grew up with star wars and something about these games has always held onto me, maybe the hours I wasted trying to get past those damn dark jedi or get out of that frikin room.

10. Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb:
Like Tomb Raider but with one of my all time favorite movie characters.

I have many more favorite games but this is what i can summarize without giving it to much thought.

Dude, SWG was an absolutely fantastic game pre-nuke. Halo was an amazing acheivement in gaming history as it changed the face of online FPS. And CoD:MW2 is farking amazing.
